Family Therapy

Elizabeth Karlinski, MS, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Life presents us with many challenges and sometimes we need help to navigate our way through them. I believe that true courage lies in our ability to ask for help.  I also believe in the power of connection.  We all need and thrive in healthy and fulfilling relationships.  My therapeutic goal is to create the safe environment necessary for my clients to face the challenges that threaten their relationships, well-being and quality of life.

"Love rests on two pillars: surrender and autonomy.  Our need for togetherness exists alongside our need for separateness. "

- Esther Perel

ABOUT ME

I received a BA in psychology from The George Washington University, which helped me to develop an understanding of cognitive neuroscience as well as abnormal, developmental and social psychology.  I then attended Seton Hall University’s Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s of Science program, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

I am trained in clinical and multicultural competence in assessing and intervening with individuals, couples and families.  I am also trained in drug and alcohol assessment, diagnosis and counseling.  My experience includes working with diverse individuals, couples and families struggling with relationship issues, substance abuse, mental health disorders and trauma of all kinds.

My approach to therapy is influenced by Relational Life Therapy (RLT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS), and mindfulness-based approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  I have also completed the basic training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a highly effective, evidence-based form of psychotherapy.
